The James Kim family tragedy

On November 25, 2006, the Kim family had dinner in Roseburg, Oregon, around 9pm. They left Roseburg and drove south on I-5. Their destination was a resort in Gold Beach on the Oregon coast.
After missing their intended exit for Highway 42 to the Oregon coast, the Kim family consults a map and decides to take Bear Camp Road as an alternate route. They take exit 61 in Merlin and proceed west.
By 10:30pm the Kim family notices signs warning of winter conditions and decide to turn back. They end up on a side road about 15 miles north of Bear Camp Road. By 2:00am the next morning they are running low on gas and decide to stop.
On December 4, a helicopter spots Kati Kim. Kati and the children are rescued.
On December 6, the body of James Kim is located in Big Windy Creek, about one mile from his car.
