What is Relay For Life?
Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is a fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, and is now held in many other countries. It is an overnight event designed to spread awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures, celebrate survivorship and raise money for research to find more cures for cancer.
Relay For Life was started in May 1985 in Tacoma, Washington. Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon, spent 24 hours circling the track at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. He raised $27,000 for cancer research.
The scale of Relay is now enormous. In 2006, over three million people took part in more than 4,600 Relays in the USA alone. Over half a million cancer survivors walked the opening lap, a traditional part of all Relays, and over $375 million was raised, making it by far the biggest single fundraising activity in the world.
Locally there is Josephine County Relay For Life which holds its annual 24-hour event around May/June at the Grants Pass High School track.

Team ILoveGrantsPass.com at Josephine County Relay For Life on June 2, 2007
Team ILoveGrantsPass.com was formed in 2007 to participate in Josephine County's Relay For Life event. About 50 members of ILGP, family members and friends worked to "Castaway Cancer." The team raised approximately $8,000 and ranked #4 out of approximately 90 teams in fund raising. Team ILoveGrantsPass.com was also selected as Josephine County Relay For Life "Rookie of the year!"

Team ILoveGrantsPass.com is at it again, one of the few Josephine County Relay For Life teams to be working on fund raising year 'round. We will have a 24-hour presence at the 2008 Relay For Life on May 31 and June 1, 2008.
