User ReviewsRated by: angel Rating: 06-05-2008 05:26 PMReview Text I tried Abu's for the first time last night. After reading about the sampler platter here, I had to try it for myself. Since I don't have much experience with Greek/Lebanese food I figured it'd give me a chance to see what else is out there. It was amazing! The lamb and rice (shawarma?) was to die for. I also loved the spanikopita - delicious! The chopped cucumber & tomato medly was nice and refreshing after trying so many new things. They had the softest, tastiest pitas I've ever had - and the hummus was delicious. I could eat their garlic dressing on just about anything... Needless to say, we devoured everything on our plate - except the falafel, which was too dry for my taste. Overall, the food was great and the people were very nice, but the atmosphere was less than inviting, which is why I give it a B+ instead of an A. I'll definately be back (and soon!), but I'll probably take it to go the next time around. We always get the sampler plate for two, which starts out with the best lentil soup I've ever tasted, and includes lamb over almond rice, four stuffed grape leaves, hummus, baba ganouj, tzaziki, tabbouleh, spanakopita, fatayer (a Lebanese spinach pie), felafel, chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, pickled turnip, radishes, olives, tahini sauce, a delicious garlic sauce, and a wonderful soft pita that I swear is homemade. The food is excellent. The owners are very friendly and really make you feel welcome.
The fare is described as Lebanese and Greek. Hence the two kinds of spinach pie. The spanakopita is the traditional Greek version made with phyllo pastry, and the fatayer is the Lebanese version. (Both are good, but I love phyllo, so I prefer the spanakopita.) The tabbouleh is the kind that's made with more parsley than bulgar, which is true of tabbouleh I've had in other Lebanese restaurants as well. The felafel is a denser and drier than I'm used to, but has a great flavor, and is good with the tahini sauce. The "pita" bread doesn't have pockets, and it's thicker and softer, and is served warm. I like it better traditional pita you get in most restaurants.

They definitely need to update their decor and ordering system. Rated by: diogenes Rating: 09-24-2006 10:22 PMReview Text Try the combination plate for two! I love middle eastern food, and I wish there was more of it available in GP. I found the spanikopita a little greasy. The felafel was a little on the dry side, but the flavor was good. The baba ganouj is excellent! (I could eat that stuff all day.) The lamb and rice dish is really good, too. The vegetarian sampler makes a nice lunch for two for around $13. Rated by: usagi Rating: 02-22-2006 08:20 AMReview Text gyro, falafel, shawarma, oh my!
